Electric Potter’s Wheel Course

Take your time to enjoy this 60-minute course in a relaxing setting with a nice view of the garden.
The small number of participants means more individual time with the instructor.
Sessions will take place even with just one participant.

Slow and Steady Electric Potter’s Wheel Course

  • Make a Well in the Center
    1. Make a Well in the Center

    Using your thumb, make a hole in the center of the clay on the potter’s wheel.

  • Expand the Well
    2. Expand the Well

    Move your thumb slowly towards the outside to enlarge the well.

  • Drawing Out
    3. Drawing Out

    Hold the clay between your fingers and stretch it from the bottom towards the top. Repeat this motion a few times to achieve the shape you want.
    Try to keep your hands steady.

  • Shaping
    4. Shaping

    Trim the edges and surfaces of your piece using your finger and a trowel, etc.

  • Finishing
    5. Finishing

    Smooth the rim using tanned leather.

  • Remove from then Wheel
    6. Remove from then Wheel

    Remove the piece from the potter’s wheel using a cut-off wire after making a groove under the object with your finger, and place it on a board.

  • After completion
    7. After completion

    Select two of the items you have made and decide which glaze you want to use on them. We will complete the rest of the process – finishing, drying, bisque (first) firing, glazing and second firing – and then send the completed item to you in about 3–4 weeks.

    * We do have an electric potter’s wheel course where you can make only one item. If 60 minutes is too long for you then we recommend you select that course.
