You can create your own original design using zaffer (cobalt blue pigment).
We carefully show you how to decorate ceramics, starting from the basics of drawing and going right through to how to create contrast in a picture using zaffer.
* Your item will be delivered to you approximately one month after the course.
Choose the item that you would like to decorate. (The fee will change according to the item selected).
Decide what you would like to draw on your ceramic.
You can look through the reference books in the workshop.
Draw a rough sketch on the ceramic using a pencil. Don’t exhaust yourself by trying to draw too neatly (the pencil lines will be gone after firing, so relax!).
Use a thin brush to paint an outline over the pencil lines of your design. This process is called kotsugaki in Japanese.
Adjust the strength of the zaffer (cobalt blue pigment) by mixing it with green tea, and paint inside the lines using a bigger brush. This process is called dami.
After finishing your picture, put your signature or mark on the bottom of the ceramic. It is also good to put a date.
We will glaze it, fire it and send it to you after it has been completed in about 3–4 weeks.
